COMMITTMENT
GREETER
Greet visitors and collect entry fees, manage store sales. Knowledgeable about the history of the building and the Museum, the current exhibit and encourage people to visit the Waiting Room area.
Regularly scheduled. Suggested commitment two times a month. Orientation and training provided.
DOCENT
FREIGHT ROOM –Main exhibit area. Greet and interact with visitors, describing the current exhibit, and the artifacts in the permanent exhibits. Guide guests through the historical frieze.

Downtown Danville Walking Tours (Spring, Summer and Fall) Guide walking tours of downtown Danville and describe historic buildings, relating stories of the owners and inhabitants.
Alamo Cemetery Walking Tours (Spring, Summer and Fall) Guide walking tours through the Alamo cemetery. Relate stories about the persons in the cemetery who influenced the development of the San Ramon Valley. Some tours include costumed characters.
Flexible schedule. Tours approximately 1 ½ hours. Training provided.
ONE ROOM SCHOOL (Fall 2021 & Spring 2022)— Conduct and/or assist with authentic classes for 3rd graders from our community in the 1888 school in Tassajara Valley.
Suggested commitment, at least one time per month for 5 months. Training provided.
Indian Life (September/October/November) Conduct or assist with hands-on classes for 4th graders from our community to learn about local Native Americans.
Suggested commitment, at least twice per month. Training provided.
SCHOOL EDUCATION PROGRAMS/PASSPORTS
Assist in coordinating local history programs for SRVUSD 3rd grade students. The PASSPORT and other programs are created with local schools and involving students traveling to designated sites of local historical significance. Volunteers train and assist teachers in local history by providing research and reference materials.
Scheduled as needed.
STORE COMMITTEE
Assist in inventory, selection and display of store merchandise.
One meeting per month plus seasonal needs.
EXHIBITS COMMITEE
Assist in the creation, construction, staffing and removal of exhibits.
Pre and Post Exhibit assistance.
EVENT PLANNING
Assist in providing refreshments for special museum events such as exhibit openings. Help plan, set up, host and take down these events.
Scheduled to coordinate with exhibits/special events.
CURATOR, RESEARCH, COLLECTIONS COMMITTEE
Assist curator in evaluating, receiving and processing donations. Join Collections Committee and pursue research, special projects and possible computer work.
Meets Monday and Wednesday each week.
FACILITIES COMMITTEE
Assist with set up, take down and movement of exhibits. Perform light repairs of the building, including carpentry, plumbing, electrical and painting.
Flexible as needed for maintenance and coordination with exhibit set up/take down.
FUNDRAISING COMMITTEE
Determine needs for each fund raising event, including refreshments, sites and volunteer participation.
Meets one time per month.
CHILDREN’S TRAIN
The museum-owned train is run at special events throughout the Valley to advertise the museum and get revenue. Volunteers set up and take down the train, sell tickets, provide crowd control and drive the train.
Scheduled with seasonal activities and coordinated with the community.
